Having trouble figuring out how to dress for a photoshoot?
I will be sharing a few of my favourite tips on how you can dress for your next photoshoot, keep reading to find out!
Check Out the Location
What is the main color at your location?
Are you taking photos in a green field or at the beach where there is a lot of blue and tan?
Checking what the main/most dominant color at your location will be able to help you figure out what colors to wear to your session.
You don’t want to wear a bright green outfit if you’re going to be taking photos in a field or forest. You will blend in with the background.
wear complimentary colors
What this means is, wear colors complimentary to your location but also to the other people in the session.
Down below is a good example of a family wearing complimentary colors.

This is another example of a family wearing matching coloured sweaters but it works with this location since there are many bright colors.

Also, don’t forget to wear colors that are complimentary to your skin tone!
Wear Something You’re Comfortable In
Wearing something you’re comfortable and confident in is key to having a good session.
If you’re wearing something that is too tight or baggy, you will constantly be fixing you’re clothes during the session and that can be a bit frustrating.
Wear an outfit you know that makes you feel good and you know you won’t be worried about how you look in it.
When in Doubt, Ask Your Photographer
Don’t ever be afraid to ask your photographer for tips on how to dress for your session.
A lot of us actually have a style guide that will help you figure out what to wear and what colors work good with the location your session is at.
I have a style guide and a location guide. My location guide also has a small color palette to show which colors you could wear to the session.
